BROOKLYN HARRIERS
Last Saturday the olub championship of the Amateur Athletic' Club was contested at Miramar. T. Collins laid an excellent trail, the course being the same as in previous years. Seventeen runners toed the mark, R. Watson going to, the front and leading .for about three-quarters of a mile. Cummins then came up fast ■and took the lead, maintaining it until reaching the gasometer, when R. Wat-son-went to the front again. The position on the sandhills was—lt. Watson, 1; F. Nioholson and C. Cummins, 2 and 3 respectively. These positions were 'not changed until reaching the straight. Watson stumbled, and Nioholson went to the front, keeping the lead until about 25' yards from the tape, when Watson again came up, and the two running neck and neck, Watson won by inches. Calvert also beat Cummins. The finish was—R. Watson, lj F. Nicholson, 2; W. Calvort, 8. On tho. sealed handicap Vbeing opened it showed'a win for M. Ellison, with S. Oldfields second. Mi Ellison also won tho trophy for the biggest improvement. After tho raoo, tho. members and supporters enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon tea at Mrs. Free.'s. Mr. Bristow congratulated the winners, and thanked Mrs. and her helpers for their kindness in catering for the olub. Mr, 11. A. Walker, the club secretary, moved a vote of: sympathy to Mr. C. Cummins, who had lost a brother at -the front, and those present stood in silonce.
