THE TRAMWAY TROUBLE
TRAMWAY MANAGERS TO MEET UNION executive:
As the result of the compulsory cutting out of the extra cars for the 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. period yesterday the wirs that were running' earned very, heavy loads, and 1 there were occasions when people had to wait longer than usual for transport, particularly at the Courtcnav Place stop (in the ca6e of out-bound cars). At tho meeting of the Tramways Committee yesterday afternoon a report was presented dealing comprehensively with the situation as affected by tho men's refusal to work overtime. The report dealt extensively with the system' in relation to overtime genei ally and "called back" timo particularly -matters of a somewhat, technical character. After »■ full consideration of tho report it was dccided that the General Manager of tho tramways (Mr. W. IJ. Morton), with his assistants, should meet tho cxecutivo of the union, with a view to discussing points at issue on lines which may ninne it possible- for a settlement of tho trouble to be brought about.
