" At last night's meeting of tho Oamaru Borough Council the Mayor, Mr. Robert Milligan, announced that he had ooncludcd successful negotiations with the Public Trustee for a loan of £75,000, to meet the borough loan which falls due tfor repaymont on January'l, 1920. Tho loan is for ten years at 5} per cent., and 1 per cent. Binkiug fund. The loan is issued at par. Much gratification is felt that the loan was obtained in Now Zealand, and that in view of the present difficulties of the money market. The Mayor was heartily congratulated, by the council upon having concluded this important financial transaction so successfully that nearly the whole of tho borough's indebtedness has been repayed on favourablo terms.
