There are many indications that the exhibition of 1918 will be a memorable one. Achieve- 1 ment and victory have acted as a tonio and spur to action, both psychological and physiological, and the quickening impulses have permeated tho studios. In no former year of the Academy's activities lias there been promised so much largo and important work for an annual.show. From Australian studios thirty-nine paintings and etchings have come to.hand. AM to crown achievement several magnificent paintings by artists of world renown are being specially loaned to the Academy Council for the .coming exhibition. Sir Henry liaeburn, Ji.A., the famous Scottish academician, whose splendid portrait, of Ca'ptoin' Crawford, 8.N., was shown in the exhibition of 1916, will this year be represented by a fiuelywroHght canvas iu the possession. of Mr. James Holmes, of tliis city. Turner, R.A., the famous English artist, in whose defence lluskin silenced forever the unjust criticism levelled at tho painter.
