A new industry caused by the war and stinted in tho southern part of Holland is attracting general, notice, and will probably spread over tho entire country. It is the making of a slipper with a wooden sole and with the upper and inner parts formed of various materials, sucli as twill, corduroy, and cheap woollen stuffs. All these materials are relatively cheap, and yet make comfortable and durable slippers,/selling for the practical equivalent of is. 2d. a pair for the best quality. It is claimed that they can bo used generally where the occupation is indoors. Excepting the cutting of the wooden sole, which is done by machinery, those slippers are mado by hand.

Schmitt, Auckland, phosphatic manuro; P. Olsen, Chelmer. preserving meat; P. H. Keinrji, Auckland, regulator for internal combustion engines; Dixou Mid Granger, Auckland, improved hat hook. Mr. P. Frascr will speak under tbe auspices of the AVellington Social Democratic Party at the Alexander Hall, Abel Smith Street, on Sunday evening at 8.
