WELLINGTON CENTRAL SEAT
MR HILDRETH THE GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE. The Hon. W. D. S. Macdonald ifnnounced yesterday that the National Government candidate for Wellington Central would be Mr. W. T. Hildroth. Mr. Hiltlreth is well known in the public life of the community. He is a member of the City Council, and he has sat as a member of the Wellington Harbour Board. In general politics be has always been a supporter of the Liberal Party, and was chairman of .Mr. Fletcher's election , committee. THE LABOUR NOMINATIONS. Yesterday Mr. M. J. Reardon, president of the Wellington Trades Council, consented to allow himself to be nominated lor the Labour ballot which is to be held to choose a candidate for Wellington Central. The nominations for. this ballot have closed, and the candidates are: John Read, nominated by Grocers' Union, Plumbers and Gasfitters' Union, Storeinen's Union, Carpenters' Union. Trades and Labour Council; Jlicliael John Reardon, nominated by Cooks'and Stewards' Union; Peter Fraser, nominated by Housewives' Union, Women's International League, Wellington' North Branch N.Z. Labour Party, Wellington South Branch N.Z. Labour Party, Social Democratic Party. The selection ballot.candidate will he taken at tho polling booth, Trades Hall, Vivian Street, to-day and Monday, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. each'day. "Wellington Central: Harry-Atmore. Dates will be announced later." The foregoing is the text of. a telegram received From Nelson last evening, and is taken tojnean that Mr. Atmore intends to contest tho Central seat. A deputation of workers, who. are members of various trades unions, waited upon Mr. M. J. Mack,-secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, last evening, and requested that he should contest the Wellington Central by-election in the interests, of Independent Labour. Mr.. Mack, re-: plied that h? would give the matter consideration, and would announce his decision on Monday' or Tuesday. _ All workers 'who are prepared to assist the Labour Party in the forthcoming election are invitnd to attend' the new Trades Hall, V/Vian Street, this afternoon at 2.30. The secretary of the Wellington L.R.C. has received a telegram from Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P., stating that he ■ will arrive in Wellington shortly, and will assist in the platform campaign. The opening meeting of the Labour ■Party's campaign will bo held at the Alexandra: Hall, Abel Smith Street, on Thursday evening at 8. Mr.'A. Parlane will preside. Other meetings will be advertised in due course. The central committee room.of the Labour Party is at tho Trades Hall, Vivian Street, where those entitled to vote can be enrolled. ■ ' 1 ■ - : . I
