Both teams- were well represented m the match against Canterbury for the Brown Shield tout Saturday. The goalkeeping of Wi Neeri roused the spectators to enthusiasm, whilst Ives and ■Wilson excelled themselves in defence. Ballard," v.-ho played a sterling game in the. forward ranks for Wellington, will be playing for Y.M.C.A.. The final of tho third division cup is also expected to provide a' good game,, as'Marist intond to endeavour to turn the tables on Institute, who havo won the championship this seasou. Rarity, the only third division player who played iii the Brown Shield match, will play 'tfor Institute. Both games will ho played on Association Park, South Kilbirnie. SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL. The final if or the schools championship was played at Anderson. Park' between ■'Thprndon and Newtown Marist Brothers 'Schools. The contest was one of the liiost exciting over seen on Anderson' Park. Each school was able to put in its best team, and was supported by a good following of youthful and adiilt barraukers. Thorndon won the toss, and elected to take advantage -of' J ti slight breezo and sun. Front the kick-off it was ovident that 'a stirring.game was going to be witnessed. Newtoim became aggressive, and the Thorndon backs were called upon to do a lot of defensive work. A. Tancred (back) was responsible for somo fino work., and It. Dimno. was also in evidence Thorndou counterattacked, and Quirke (goal), for Newtown, was called upon to defend, and was equal to tho call. At this stago ■J. Tancred (centre-forward 'for Thorndon) sent in a hard shot, and just missed tho goal. Newtown. rallied, and again attacked strongly. Andrews took advailtago of a good opportunity, and shot hard, the ball striking the erosfsbhr. Half-time arrived, with Newtown attacking strongly, but neither sido had scored. On resunling, Newtown wero for somo.-time hard pressed, the.Thorndon forwards being very active. _ At length, from a power kick by Lewis, J. Tailored headed in a beautiful goal. This first score put more vim into tho match, and the game, which was characterised -by exceedingly fast and clever play, still left-Thorndon masters of the situation. Gardiner, (centre-half) sent in a beautiful shot, ■ which the goalkeeper Just diverted over the bar. Several further opportunities were presented to the' Tliormloii forwards of scoring,, but were riot taken advantage of. After a stubborn defence , . Newtown :■ broke away, iind looked like equalising the scores, but the solid defence of the ThoMidon backs kept them out. Up-and-down play followed, and then "W. Cudby took tho ball down tho right-wing several.times, and put in some dangerous shots. From a centre by Lewis a scrainblo ensued, and O'Brien netted the ball. Shortly after this tho full-time whistle sounded,' leaving Thprndon the winners of the Wellington schools "championship by two goals to nil. Mr. Andrews controlled the game.
