DANNEVIRKE MEETING 1!0SE PINK WINS OTANGA HANDICAP. (By Tolccriinh —Siiocial Correspondent.) Oannovlrke, September 11. Tho Danncvirko itacing Club's Spring Meeting was licld in perlect weather. Thorn \v;iH a large attendance, and the. sum of i;t0,611 was put through tho totaliEator, as against 4)15,037 last year. Scratcliings reduced the Trial licld to 32 runners. Mandrake, Hallow, unci Saniarang were the favourites. After some delay the Held was sent oil to a straggling start. War Scot and .Saraarang were lirst way, followed by Hallow. The limtnamed rushed to tho trout at the home turn, but lie was soon done with, War Soot holding him safe. Inside the distance llandruko came very fast, and won by a length from War Scot, with Hallow a neck away. Qatlierer and Samaraug were tho next to finish. March On was coupled with tho winner on the machine.. Ut.uwai, Matatua, and Sabino waß tho order of favouritism in the Hack Welter Handicap.' Trickery and Tho Pagan led Matatua, Sunbriglit, and the favourito into tho straight, wliero Matatua shook himself! clear, but in the run to tlio cost Sabine finished very fast and won by a cloar length from Willys Knight, who also finished well. Matatua waa it head in •front of "Utnwai, who was a bit unlucky in tho straight.' Master lnoy was left at the post, and Belgian Maid whipped tho Held tlio whole way. Speculation was evenly divided in the Spring Handicap, all tho top-weights being well supported. Gleni'oy, Invocation, and Glorify v.'ero tho fli'6t to show out, but after going two furlongs, Croesus took charge, and he led till well down tlio straight. Hero Multaine collared the topweight, and AH Over also appeared on tho scene. Multaine won nicely from All Over, with Glenroy close up. Elocution and Revocation wero tho nest-to finish. Astrophei got oft badly and was noL prominent throughout the racc. Thero were eighteen runners in the Kiick Hurdles, but Hjorneborg was tho only ono whoso chance was seriously l'ancicd, and ho started' a very hot favourite. At tlio second fence Oro Ore, War Maid, and tin-, decided fell, and Wolahra came down at tho next obstacle. Sarbonito and Atnatora made tho pace, l'or a mile, when the favourite moved up, but Janitor caught him at the last fence, and in a. good finish won by a head. Vacuum was a fair third, with tho others tailed off. . M'aioha, who was reported to have beaten Lingerie in a gallop over half a, mile,, and Penury Hose, tho Jlnrton winner, wore the two best fancied in the six furlongs Hack Kace. Gold Problem was tlie quickest to begiu, and she led tho favonrito and -Penury Rose, into the 1 straight. Hero the favourito came, away and won nicely from Tigriliya, who finished well. Penury Eose was third and Persian l'rinco next. The winner won in good style, ami as ho is capablo of a lot of improvement thero should be a good future for him. - Paraoa, - Fisher, and Gladfnl was tho way backers fancied tho horses in tho Jumpers' Flat Handicap. Fisher won Ilia race, but weighed in fioz. short, and was disqualified. At the start Dancaster and Classification set a fast pace. Down tho back, the favourito and Gladful moved up, and were prominent into tho straight, but Fisher got up on the rails and won by a leugtli from Blackall and Classification. l'araoa got a, bad passage in tlio straight and appeared to be unlucky not to win. Tho Otanga Haudicap resulted in a surprise win for Rose Pink, wlio boat the favourite, All Over, by a narrow margin. Haumakaka and Kazama led Toka and Kai'o into the straight, wliero the field bunched. : Mazama was in front at the distauco, hut All Over and Eose Pink finished vory strongly, and tho latter, on tho outside, won by a hoad. Mazama was a leugth away. Hydrus finished close up fourth'. Torchlight and Persian l'rinco held the attention of backers in the concluding ovenl. Toddy had a. big break for six furlougs, when he compounded, and Willys Knight took chargc. In ,i close finish ho succumbed to Persian Prince by a nose. Torchlight was third, and Ponury Eose next. The acceptors for the Jumpers Flat Handicap includo Golden Princc, who won a similar race at Timaru in July. •Several A'ew Zealand horses have been nominated for events to bo decided at Sydney 'Tattcraall's Hcotiiiß on Saturday. Molyneux and Gloaming have been nominated for the Novice Handicap, Lingerie for the Tramway Handicap, St. Elmn, and John Bunny for tho Steeplechase, whilst the entries for the Chelmsford Stakes include Finmark, Holland, Kilhope, Killoweu, and Gloaming. The Auckland-owned gelding; British Arch, won the Hurdlo Race run at Moorefield Park on Saturday last. British Arch is a halt-brother.'by Marble Arch to_ the Grand National Hurdles winner Kauri King. From Otatara it is reported that La Notte (dam of Midnight Sun) has thrown a brown colt to Wolinva. There died in England recently Veneration 11, dam of Oraganour, who won the Derby in 1913. but was subsequently disqualified for jostling. Veneration II was a famous brood mare, five of her foals sold at auction realising an average price of 3880 ens. Saturday. TROTTING THE WELLINGTON CLUB. Tito annual meoting of tho Wellington Trotting Club at Petono on Tuesday evening was well attended. The President (Major A. M. Samuel) was in the chair. The chairman, moving the adoption ol the report and balance-sheet, said that tile popularity of the club's trotting meeting was evidence of assured success for the club. With a clean sport, increased stakes, and further improvements to the buildings and grounds, and the granting I ot extra permits to the club when allocations were made after - the war, the club j could confidently hope to be classed m I the near future as a metropolitan club. ' The totalisator turnover had increased by J more than 200. pur cent, since 1911. as the following figures showed :-19R £6891; 1910, £8059;' 1916.. £12.222; 1917, £14,211; 1918, £20,151. Tho now training track had proved a great benefit to owners and trainers. The club would continue -its' progressive policy.
