BALLOT APPEALS
LIST HEARD YESTERDAY
Thero was a sitting of the Second Military Service Board yesterday. Mr. J. W.Poynton is chairman of tho board, and the other members aro Messrs. T. Curtice and G. Williams. In tho case of Private Robert D. Benge, Details, Trentham, who desired leave-to go on with farming -operations, tho board had no recommendation to make. Leave till January was, given James Edward llabitt, boot operative, Ngaio, for whom tho Equity lioot Co. appealed. It was stated that 61 of the company's employees had been called up. llabitt- was said to bo a skilled "laster." Captain Beale, the military representative, said that as long as firms were treated leniently by the military boards they would delay train'ing others to take the places of men likely,to-bo called up.
