CRICKET

__> RESUMPTION PLUNKET SHIELD MATCHES PROPOSED. v - By Telegraph-Press Association. Christchurch, September 10. At the animal meeting of the Canterbury Cricket .Association a letter was received from the New -'Zealand Council 'stating that it was proposed to rcsum'e the Plunket Shield matches, and asking for the views of the association. Several delegates' pointed out that the reasons which brought about the discontinuance of .the Plunket matches three years ago were all the more applicable now, but others urged that the matches would keep up the spirit of competition and a lively.interest in cricket. The chairman (Mr. A. Cant) said that he was not in favour of thp resumption of the matches, but ho thought the fact that Canterbury held the shield at present should not influence them in their decision. . It was decided that the Canterbury delegates to the council be instructed to favour the resumption of the matches. ■ It was resolved that representative cricketers in camp in New Zealand should ,play for the provinces in which they had been eligible in civilian life. A hearty vote of thanks for his pas* services was accorded Mr. Dan Reese, the well-knowii Canterbury and New Zealand representative cricketer, who goes into camp shortly.
