A COMPLAINT

Sir—Would you kindly inform mo how it is that the post oilice.at Reiko-i rangi is disconnected from the outlying districts? To-day (Sunday) I had •occasion to ring up the doctor a/Otaki between 10.30 and 11.30 a.m. After first trying to get Otaki, I tried to get Wellington, but could not.'' So much for our improved telephonic system. With the old system wo could always get either Wellington or any other office on the line direct. I might state that the war is not the reason of this curtailment, as the post office is open till 5.10 p.m. on ordinary days, and it should not.be too much trouble to have the post office connected with Otaki or Wellington after hours, 'and Sunday. Should the' doctor be required to attend to accidents or sickness here, under the present system tho case might prove fatal, as wo.are about 17 miles from, (him, with a bureau and post office and no Sunday or _ after-hours connection. I think it is time that we took a step back to improve our telephonic system. In conclusion ! might mention that tho present post office was condemned by the late LiberalLabour Government,- and Mr. Ell, M.P., told me last year that when ho was Postmaster-General he signed the authority to erect a new post office, but the Massey Government (I think) must have cancelled, it. and Sunday and after-hours' connection seems to be the latest thing of the past.—l am, etc., J. T. KENT. Reikorangi, September 8, 1918. [We understand that the" matter is now being looked into, and the circuits tested. Should there be anything wrong it will be immediately put right. A prompt complaint to the Department at tho time would have been the most expeditions means of rcmodving any trouble that may have existed.]
