WATERSIDERS V. WOEKIN6 MEN'S CLUB. The annual shield match between the above clubs was contested on Thursday evening at the rooms of the Working Men's Club. Mr. Or. Lindsay, as chairman of the club's chess and draughts section, extended a cordial weloomp to the visitors. He mentioned that there was n bond of sympathy between the two teams, inasmuch as the late Mr. Charles Ericson had been champion of _ both clubs, who were now uniting their efforts to erect a stone at- Mr. Ericson's grave. In conclusion, he hoped that tlio assembled enthusiasts would enjoy the match, and that the better side would win. (Applause.) Play then proceeded rapidly, two games being contested at each of the fifteen boards. At the adjournment, for refreshments the Watersiders had a useful lead, and they, finally won by nineteen games to four and seven draws. They thus regain possession of the shield, which Mr. Lindsay handed over, with Hie warning that liis side would make a. great effort to recapture this handsome trophy noxt. year. Mr. J. Armstrong (president) responded for the Watersiders, and returned thanks for the hospitality extended to his team. The score of the match is as under:— WATERSIDERS. W.M. CLUB.
