A FIVE PER CENT. BONUS
TO ALL TRAMWAYMEN. In committee on Thursday night tM City Council gave further coiislderation, to the question of tramwaymen's wages. On tho previous occasion the Tramways Committee recommended that married men should receive a bonus of ss. per week, but several of the 'councjllors protested against any discriminatiqn, being shown between married and single employees, while others indicated; that they thought the council should be a little, more generous. The matter, was therefore referred back to the committee for-further consideration. It is understood -tha't the- committee repeated its former , recommendation, but ■this was not adopted by the council, ■ which decided, after a very close division, that all tramway employees should receive an additional bonus of 5 per cent. Roughly, the bonus now-proposed means an addition of about 3s. to tlii! conductors'- wages and 3s. 6d. to 3s. 9dj to the motormen's wages.
