MILITARY SUPPLIES

ARRANGEMENTS BEING MADB, Regarding the purchase of military; supplies, which is controlled by the Hon. Arthur Myers,.th.o'Minister stat-. cd to a reporter that at present the different branches of the military eetablishm&nt have been requested " to formulate their estimates for the calendar year 1919. "It is lioped," said Mr. Myers, "that a full review of the position for next year, so far as can: be judged at present, will bo available ■iowards the end of this month, after which steps will be taken to deal with the most important matters, and ire cases where tenders are to be invited that such business will bo completed: before the end of this. year. As regards the execution of extensive orders which have already been placed! with the New Zealand woollen mills, it has been reported to me that there might be some justification for easing off the- military orders so as to enable) the mills to give attention to-civilian, requirements. This aspect of the matter is now being fully considered by! my advisers, who are conferring witli the military officers concerned, and. if. it is possible for me to relax operations for fulfilling military requirements, I shall bo pleased to dp so, and thus af« ford the trade an opportunity to replenish to, some extent their depleted stocks of soft goods."
