THE NAVY LEAGUE
The monthly meeting of the Execu-. tivo Committee of the Navy League was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mr.' J. B. Harcourt presiding. The' 1 Education Sub-committee reported tlidt a large number of school, branches'" had been formed during the year in the city and the country districts, including several in Taranaki. In order to maintain an interest among school members a suggestion was made that it might be possible to arrange for the display of educational pictures periodically for the benefit of Navy League school members at the various picture theatres. , Colonel G. -1 1 '. C. Campbell was added to-the Education Sub-committee with the view of carrying out this suggestion. It was also agreed that the committee should bring forward.a report providing for the distribution of prizes to bo competed for by members of the school branches. A suggestion was mado that a library should be established in connection with the league, and a sub-committee was set up to roport on same to the next monthly meeting. Mrs. Hall-Thompson mentioned on behalf of the Ladies' Auxiliary Branch that parcels had been dispatched for the members of the Motor Boat Patrol, and that she had attended the meeting called to assist the British and Foreign Sailors' Society to raise funds, and had offered the helg of the Ladies' Auxiliary BranchSome, discussion took place witli regard to the. celebration of Nelson Day, fed a- number of suggestions were made as to the manner in which this should bo done this year.' Arrangements will probably he mado for addresses to he given to school branches, together with a patriotic picture entertainment. , A sub-committeo was set up tojpake arrangements. and to report as to a suitable, method of marking the occasion by the branch itself.._ ■ ' 'The treasurer of King George's Fund reported that remittances of £453.were .being sent fonvard'to the -Ladies' Auxiliary of the Navy League, London, for the 'benefit of naval• prisoners of .war, and £75\i's being dispatched to King Georgb's Fund. ''With regard to the amount collected ou Balloon and I' lower Day, it was dc-cided to allot £100 to the Marine Orphans' Homes at Plymouth, Portsmouth, and tlie No re. and to forward the balance to King George Fund, to be used for the sick and wounded sailors and their dependants, as suggested by' Mrs. Darling and her assistants.
