London, September 3. Sir lan Hamilton has been appointed Lieutenant of the Tower of London. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
[The office of Lieu tenant of tho Tower of London was previously hold by General Sir Horace Smith Dorrien, who preceded General Smuts in tho command in East Africa. The office is subordinate to that of the Constable of the Tower (Field-Marshal Sir Evelyn Wood). Sir lan Hamilton commanded the military expedition to Gallipoli. and after tho failure was recalled. His now appointment indicates his definite retirement from active participation in military affairs.]
