THE FINE SPIRIT OF BRITAIN
SLR JOSEPH WARD'S IMPRESSIONS. (Hcc. September 4, 8 p.m.) London, September 3. Sir Joseph Ward (New Zealand Finance Minister), interviewed, says lie returns immensely struck with the fino spirit of all classes, their -fixed determination to go right on, and their general aversion to a poace by negotiation. Tlio latter would bo a disaster to tho whole of the civilised world. We wero now certainly on tho road to vie- 1 tory, and it could only be a matter of tinio to seeuro repayment for our great sacrifices. Labour had acted well: Without its co-operation tho successful carrying on of the war would havo been impossible. There was no need for gloominess over the future. People who hud provided their own requirements as Britain had done during the war could be depended upon to meet after-war conditions satisfactorily. He would go back satisfied that the authorities hero were anxious not to allow the Pacific islands to revert to Ger-many.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable-Assn.
