Total, 343 G. _ Foreign decorations, French, 48 J Russian, 7; Italian, 5; Belgian, 52; .Serbian, 29; Montenegrin, 3. This list does not includc such wellknown Now Zcalanders as Freyberg and Sanders, two of the best-known V,C. lioroes of the war. Freyberg has risen from nowhere to the rank of Brigadier-General, one of the youngest Brigadiers in the Army, and he lins won the other distinction also of tlm D.S.O. Sanders was a sea fighter. Ho also won the D.S.O. and the V.C. for deeds of bravery never - surpassed in any war, but the full story of them .lias not yet been told. They are not in the list because theywero not ifc tho New Zealand Forces. Two otlffr New Zealanders to gain tho V.C. wera Cook, with the Australians, and Tawl, with tlie British Army.
