THE CHURCH ARMY'S WORK
' During the'nine months'to the end of March the expenditure of the Church Army had amounted to £873,318, and the receipts to £834,280. The activities of this splendid organisation in-| eluded kitchen cars on tho West front, , hostels for. men on leave in London, training for discharged men, parcels for prisoners of war, besides work here in New Zealand, and tho comfort of the men on transports. General Sir William Robertson recently paid a remarkable tribute to the work of the Church Army. At tho annual meeting in London he stated that the death-dealing effect of modern armaments was so great, the .strain on tho powers of human endurance was so prolonged and intense, and the numbers engaged were so colossal that nothing less than tho highest standard of moral and physical powers would suffice to ensure victory. Every endeavour should therefore be made to provide facilities for our troops to rccovdr and retain these powers. Tho work of. the Church Army was so designed as to conduce effectively to 'that end, and ho commended the efforts of the organisation to his hearers.
