OTAGO V. SOUTHLAND
By Telegraph.—PreßS Association. Dunedin, August 31. The interprovincial football match, Otago v. Southland, was played tonlay in dull, calm weather, before an attendance of about 3000. Tho Southland forwards at once attacked, tho Blue torwards being slow to get going. AHer a quarter of an hour's play the Blue forwards oarried the ball to the Southland twenty-five, and a pretty piece of passing between Matheson, Jefts, and O'Connor saw the last-named scoring fo" Otago near the corner. No goal resulted. Nearing the end of the first spell O'Connor again scored, Campbell kicking a beautiful goal. For tho first half-hour of tho second spull the Southland forwards attacked strongly, but attempts at passing by their backs repeatedly broke down. Shand secured 'a mark in a favourable position, and Grieve placed a good goal for Southland. Play then' became rather uninteresting; the Southland backs playing for the line towards tho end of the" "ame. Otago was awarded a penalty kick, and Campbell kicked another fine" goal. The game ended: Otago, 11; Southland, 3. . This was tho first time Southland had played in Dunedin smce 1913.
