THE COAL TROUBLE
MILLER-lON MEN RESUMING. A Press Association telegram fron Wostport to the effect that the Millerton men nad decided to resume work to-day was the only advico received from tlio Coast during the week-ond regarding the mining trouble. There may not bo any information about tho results of tho meetings of the strikers, which were to have been held yesterday. Some of the unions are in rather remote parts, and the news may bo delayed until to-day. If all tho unions have decided to reverse their former resolutions, and to go back to work without delay, then it may be safely presumed that the conference between tho owners and the federation delegates regarding the proposed twenty per cent, inoreaso in wagos will be held quite soon. • If tho men go back to work there will bo no moro trouble until the conference is hold, and if tho conference fixes up some agreement acceptable to both parties the trouble will havo ended. BESOLUTION OF THE A.S.E. The following resolution has been passed by tho Wellington Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers: "That, in expressing our sympathy with the Minors' Federation, we deplore, and condemn, tho inaction of tho Government iii not convening a conference of the parties concerned, and thereby averting the present crisis. Wo hereby call upon tho Government to assert its rights, an safeguard publio interests by taking over the ownership of the mines; and controlling the coal industry."
