SCHOOLS' SEMI-FINAL; ' Yesterday afternoon, Anderson Park was the seeuo. of of the best boys' i , Soccer phyed in Wellington : I tor the two years. The teams • i compotirrf were Porirua and Marist (T) ; ! 12, the semi-final of the schools' '■ °v(arapiouship. Marist Brothers win- ' ning the toss elected to play with the ; sun and a> slight brcosse behind thorn. , From the kick-off the ball travelled ' down the field into tho Marist half, but was soon cleared by A. Tailored, ', tho Marist right back. Then ensued I some very good combination amongst the Marist forwards, the Porirua goal- ! keeper being called upon to stop three successive shots, which ho did in grand style. The play was then taken into mid-field, whero a pretty piece of work by Eastwood (Porirua) set the Porirua forwards to work, only to be stopped by the Marist full-backs. At this juncture Cudby (Marist) mado a fine run up the right wing, centring tho ball to Brown (Marist), who shot hard at the goal. In the effort to clear tho ball the Porirua left back miskieked, and the ball glided off his boot into goal, the goalkeeper not having a possible hope of stopping it. ' From this on to halftiino the game became exceedingly fast and open, characterised by splendid play on both sides. When half-time : sounded the score stood I—o in. favour of Marist Brothers, i On resuming Porirua began to press. > but the hard kicking of "A. Tancred ' (Marist's right back) proved too good [ for tho Porirua forwards, and the ball ' travelled out to Cudby, who took it down the wing and centred to J. Tancred,' but Tanered's shot at goal went wide, From tho Idclc-out the Porirua
forwards took the ball down the field, where on opportunity of scoring was missed by faulty shooting. The conibination and weight of the Marist ■ forwards began to tell on tlici smaller and lighter Porirua players. Lewis (Marist), who had been playing a good game on tho left wing, was responsible for putting in several hard shots at goal, but tho Porirua goalkeeper was a mateb for them all. His saving and clearing of tbo ball from the danger zone was worthy of any senior goalkeeper. From a soramblo in front of the goal, J. Tailored shot hard, and again the Porirua goalkeeper saved, but on trying F.n clear the ball he slipped, the ball rolling out to Brown (Marist), who had no trouble in scoring. Again from the kick-off the Marist team made everv effort to score, but the defence of tiio Porirua backs proved too solid. Shortly after, with the Dlav in midfield, the whistle sounded time, giving Marist. a well-earned victory by 2 goals to nil. Mr. B. L. Salmon controlled the came. Marist (T) A have now to play Marist (N} A. for the final of the schools' championsbip. •
