HIDE AND TALLOW SALES

The fortnightly sales of hides and tallow were held yesterday by the various brokers. Messrs. Dalgety and Co. report that prices were somewhat easier for heavy hides, but the extremoly high rates ruling for calfskins were well maintained. Tallow showed a decline of about 2s. per cwt. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co. report that they submitted a catalogue of 650 hideß and 500 oalfskins. Prices ruled much' on a par with last sale for hides, oalfekins showing a, slight advance on the high figures of recent sales. Tallow was slightly easier. Messrs. Levin and Co. report good competition. As oomparcd with the sale held a fortnight ago, prices were firm, with a tendency in buyers' favour for ox hides and in sellers' favour for cow. Calfskins and yearlings were eager!" competed for, and sold at high rates. The tallow market was easier. The Walrarapa Farmers' 00-operativo Association, Ltd., in which is incorporated tho United Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., report that, compared with the previous sale, tallow was 'slightly easier; heavy ox hideß were also easier; medium ox same as last sale, as were also heavy and medium cow. Calfskins Bold well on a par with previous sale. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., offered a fair-sized catalogue. Cadfsklnß and hides, with tho exception of heavy ox, sold at about level of last sale'B rates. Heavy hides wore lower by about Jd. per lb. The domand for tallow and fat was not quite so good as at previous ealo. Messrs. Abraham and Williams report that thoy submitted a large catalogue, and buyers competed keenly for everything offered Wjith tho exception of tallow, which showed a decided decline compared with last sales. Heavy ox hides were slightly eaßler, whilst -medium and lijjht ■were on a par. Cow hides and calfskins were in keen domand at last sale's rates.
