TO-DAY'S REPRESENTATIVE MATCH.
WELLINGTON AND CANTERBURY. A good deal of interest is being taken in the representative match to be played at the Athletic Park this afternoon between Wellington and Canterbury, commencing at 3 o'clock. A special invitation has been sent to His Excellency the Governor-General and staff, also to members of Cabinet, the Camp Commandants, and His Worship the Mayor. Grandstand patrons are advised that a turnstile giving direct entrance from Rintoul Street will he open in the centre of the stand, and they are asked to use this entrance. The teams will bo as under:— Canterbury: Tench, M'Leod, Boa? (captain), Grant, Mullins, Guiney, Oowan, Gray (wing), Crawshaw, Hegarty, W. Cummings, Murray, E. Cumin ings, Henry, Drake. Emergencies: Hirst (back), Ellis (forward). Wellington: Scott ; Porter, Corner, Thomas, Tilyard, Morris, Nioholls, Bowe (wing), Arthur Farker. Albert Parker, Eberhardt, Tancren, Troy, Marks, Scott. In all probability Nicholls will bo captain. Mr. L. Simpson will bo the' refereo. The final of the third class championship between Athletic and Berhamporo will be played as a "curtain-raiser" to the big match, commencing at 1.30 p.m. Mr. E. Tregear will referee. TRENTHAM V. N.Z, UNION. MILES MUST BE ADHERED TO. A special meeting of tlio Management Committee of the A'ew Zealand Rugby Union was held last evening to consider an application from tlio Wellington Rugby Union for permission to play tlio Auckland-Wellington representative match under certain modified rules. After considerable discussion it was resolved that the Wellington liugby Union be informed that the committeo has no option but to adhere strictly to the constitution of the N.Z.It.l'.U. as defined by Rule 2 thereof, and cannot therefore accede to the request that the match Auckland v. Wellington bo played under rules other than thoso of the union. It was further decided to adviso the Wellington Union that one of the suggested modifications proposed was expressly rejected by delegates at a special meeting of the N.Z.R.U. held last year.
Tlio following players will represent Messrs. Turnbull, Hickson, and Goofier, Ltd., at a game of Rugby football against a team from Messrs. Watkius, Ltd., to-day at Duppa Street:—Backs: Watson, Mncfarlanc, Lonnon, Tyrnill, Tollan, 10. Moffitt, Gapes. Forwards: Hoare, Harvey, L. Tanner, B. Tanner, Tutt, J. Keayes, W. Keayes.
