NEW ZEALAND'S TRIBUTE TO FRANCE
FIRST-REMITTANCE. OF £10,000.
At, a meeting of tho committee of the abovo fund held yesterday, and presided over by His Worship the Mayor, it was decided that a first remittance of £10,000 should be forwarded at the earliest possiblo date, so as to reach Fiance before the settinc in of winter, and to be used for the purposes oE ih» French Red Cross, and such ether, relief objects as tho French Government may direct. In order to accomplish this a further sum of at least' £2000 is urgently required, and the committee feel confident that those who realise what Franco has done i in tjii3 war, and those who sympathise vitli the suffering- of her'-people* will promptly supply the amount needed. The committee do not intend to stop, afe this point, but- will continue their efforts, aided by other centres in tho Dominion, until the fund has reached proportions at which, it. will fulfil its original intention, viz.; that, of Icing a national tributes to a great Ally, v-orthy of the people of tho wholo of New Zealand. Contributions will ho gladly acknowledged by the . secretary, to 1/h'o fund, whose address is Bos 611, Wellington. •
