GRIERSON V. THACKER

A writ for £5000 damages for alleged libel lias been issued on behalf of Lieutenant A. H. Grierson, a returned member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, against Dr: H. T. J< Thack'er, M.P. it is alleged that thq defamatory terms were used by ])r. Tliacker at a public meeting h tha Town Hall, "Wellington, and the action will be tried in the Supreme Court at Wellington. Mr. T. Neavc, of the firm of Messrs, Young, Neave, and Courtney, is solicitor for Lieutenant Grierson.

A long time ago, before Mr. Alcxaiw der Hugh Grierson went to the war, hd was the subject of an attack by an. organisation 'called the' Anti-German League. There was a Royal Commission to inquire whether Mr. Grierson: was, in fact, a, German as was alleged, and the Royal Commission found that; he was English. Mr. Grierson was able to prove that the Griersons were an old Lancashire family, that his mother came of an old Hampshire family, and that many of his relatives were on active service with the Britisli Army. Tlio claim arises out of statements made after Lieutenant Grierson left New Zealand.
