ANNUAL MEETING OP DOMINION COUNCIL. Tlio sixth annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Catholic Federation was held at St. Patrick's Hall, Boulcott Street, yesterday. The delegates present were Auckland, Very Rev. Father Cahill, Iterars. Jlolloy and Bonner; Wellington, Very... Eev. Father O'Coimoll, Rev. Father Hurley (Adnii), Major Ilalpin, Messrs. Nolan anil Luxford; Christcliurch, Rev. Father Kerley, Messrs. Doolan and Ryan; Duncdin, Very Rev. Father Coffey (Adru.), Rev. Father Foley, Mr. D. L. Poppelwell (president). His Grace > Archbisiiop O'Shea and a number of tile local clergy were present.

His Grace welcomed tlio visiting delegales, and expressed great ploasuro at the material progress made during the past year by the federation. Ho urged upon delegates the great importance of the work of social study, particularly in relation to tlio economic problems with which the Dominion would bo faced at the conclusion of the war. His Grace spoke of the splendid work being done by Wellington social study clubs, the meetings ol' which were open to all, and ho hoped that other members of the community would attend and learn the Catholic viewpoint in such matters.

The report ami balance-sheet, disclosed a satisfactory position, while the financial statement in connection with tlio Catholic Field Service Fund witnessed the large amount of good being carried out by the chaplains in New Zealand training camps, hospital ships, transports; tlio Homo camps, and at tlio treats in Franco and Palestine.

The pians of the new Catholic Institute at Tauherenikau were shown and appreciated. The Rev. Chaplain Daly attended, and gave an interesting address oil the needs of the soldiers at the English training camps and hospitals. The constitution'of tlio federation was altered, giving more direct representation to diocesan councils. A comprehensive scheme of scholarships to secondary schools was adopted, the details of management being left to the four dio. cesan councils. Hearty appreciation was expressed of the services of Mr. G. Girling-Bntcher, who occupied the position _ of secretary and organiser from the inception of the federation, and has relinquished office owing to ill-health. The vacancy caused by this resignation was filled by tha apnoinlmeiit of Miss Girling-Bntcher. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows President, Mr. D. L. Poppelwell (re-elected); vice-presi. dents, Very Rev. Fathers Caliill and Ker ley, Major T. H. Hal pin: lion, treasurer, Mr. P. D. Hoakins (re-elected).
