TRAMWAYMEN'S DEMANDS
UNIFORM SET OF WAGES REQUIRED. Tlio members of tiie Tramwaymen s Onion held "shift" meetings yesterday to consider tlio position in regard to the demand for increased wages. In tile morning there was an attendance of over 200 men, and a. motion was carried protesting against any discrimination being'mado between married and single men. A further meeting of members of tho union was held in tho evening, when there was an attendance of 350. The position was discussed at length, ami the following resolution was carried unanimously: "That, acting on Press reports, this union is of opinion that as tho Tramways Committee have admitted by their report to the City Council tlie increased cost of living necessitates increased wages,, we strongly resent any discrimination between , married and single members, as the principle of trades unionism is that equal work performed should receive equal pay. Further, from remarks made by certain councillors, for reasons supporting an increase in wages, wo desire it to bo clearly understood that, wo require no charity grant-, but adequate payment for services rendered as servants of the citizens of Wellington.'
