TRAMWAY MEN & COUNCIL'S NEW PROPOSALS
SHIFT MEETINGS TO BE HELD
The proposal of the Finance Committee of the City. Coutnil that the council should offer married tramway men a war bonus of 6s. was a subject of discussion in Labour circles yesterday. ■
An officer of the Tramway Union stated yesterday that when the Press reports'of the City Council discussion were read the men first of all talked of holding a stop-work meeting. However, that idea was not resolved on, and a decision was come to to hold shift moetings. These meetings, which will take place when the men go off duty, will not dislocate business. They will bo held to-day. 1 A Dominion reporter was assured that the men were entirely hostile to the proposal that the increase should be for married men only. Until the meetings of the men have been held 110 official statement could be made, but il is understood that the men regard a' ss. bonus as ridiculously inadequate.
