CHARGE OF RECEIVING DISMISSED

Mr. V. V. Frazcr, S.M.. conducted the proceedings at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. A carter named John .Richard M'\ icar, employed "by Samuel Brown, i,:d., pleaded guilty in stealing two bags ot coal belo\;.-.".Tig 10 his employers. Harry Richard?, for whom Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared, denied having teeeiwd the coal from M'Vicar knowing it to have beon stolen.

White was lined 10s., with 7s. costs. Inspector Marsack said that a great many reservists were under the impression tliat it was sufficient to inform the Postal authorities of a change of address, buc that was not so. The Government Statistician must bo notified. His Worship said that every Tesorvist must notify a change of address within fourteen days, even if he only moved from one liousrt to the next house in the same street. BY-LAW CASES.

"This appeal's to be a case arising out of a neighbour's quarrel," said Mr. J. O'Shea, city solicitor, in a case in which Harry Coleman was charged with having caused an obstruction by leaving two barrels standing in Ebor Street. Defendant said that ho had left tho barrels in the street in readiness lor a carter to reniovo them to the Fever Hospital. They were only standing in the street, which was a 'blind thoroughfare, for about three hours. It was owing to petly spite on the part of neighbours that the information was laid. His Worship said the obstruction was not very serious, and ordered defendant to pav 7s. costs. Howard M. Clazebrook was fined 10s„ with 7s. costs, for driving a motor-car without sufficient, lights.

On an information of having conducted a registry ofiico without a license, Marion Sims was iined 2s. Gd., with 7s. casts.

E. M. Phillips was fined 10s„ with 7s. costs, for leaving a motor-car unattended 111 Willeaden Street.

For driving vehicles without lights 011 tho Hutl: Road, Joseph Mears and John Thomas M'Naniara were each fined 10s., with costs 7s.

On informations of allowing horses to wander, Brownlee, Ltd.. were fined ,£l, vith 7s. cosls; John O'Brien, sen., was fined 1s„ willi 7s. costs; and Wong Chew, 10s., with 7s. costs.
