ZEBU CATTLE
Owing to the ravages of ticks in Queensland the experiment has been made of crossing cattle with- Zebu bulls, reports having beoa obtained from India that such cattle are immune to tick fever. One of those who made the experiment was Mr. William M'Dowall, of Christmas Creek, North Queensland, who secured .1 fine Zebu bull several years ago. Recently asked to stnto his opinion 011 the experiment, Mr. M'Dowall said that a cross with Dovons gave a beast that was far ahead of other cattle in keeping condition during drought. _ He found that they topped up more quickly and came to maturity earlier. They appeared to bo immune to all disease, and offered greater resistance to the ravages of ticks. Such R cross quickly got wild unless well handled, but tinder the latter conditions they made excellent working bullocks, as they would work longer and more easily than ordinary cattle. Mr. If'Dowall was inclined to think that a cross with a Shorthorn would produce riuieter cattle. Such a cross produced excellent milkers,
