MK. THOMAS RAYMOND JONES.

Many will regret to learn of tho death of Mr. Thomas Raymond Jones, formerly of tho contracting and general building firm of Palliser and Joirv who passed away at his residence, lima Street, lower Hutt. on Monday afternoon. Mr. Jones, who had been ailing for the past six months, was 73 years oi age. Ho was born at Newport, Monmouthshire, ales, in 1845, and came to Now Zealand in logq In association with .tno late' Mr. Charles Fnllisei;. ho was concerned with various big. works in different parts'of tho Dominion; indeed. the firm had far larger contacts out of Wellington than in it. lalliser a„d Jones built tho big breakwaters at Timaru and Oamaru, and one of the many contracts associated with tho very costly breakwater at Napier was carried out by them. In Wellington they went in for residential building in a big way. For some years past tlio deceased had been living in retirement at tho Lower Hutt, bnt was still an active man up till a lew months ago. As a director of the SilverZnm B?ick Company be iised to v.si the works almost every day. \\ lien no resided in AVellingion he was a member at different times of the Nowtown nnrt Wellington Bowling Clubs, and since lie Iwul resided at the Hutt he had been a hHilv popular member of the local club. jlr. Jones leaves a widow and a family of six sons and tonr daughters. The sons are Thomas Jones (manager of tlw Silverslreain brick works); Harry Jones, eontractor; Charles Jones, farmer, late ot the Bay of Plenty, and about to go into camp; William .Tones, dentist, of UPO Town: Arthur Jones, dentist, formerly of Manners Street, Wellington, nnel now on duly in France; " and I'red Jo lies, farmer. Tho daughters are Mesdamcs Cuthbert. of Timaru (by deceased s nrst marriage), Fred Ballinger (of Wellington\ fioJiily (of v lm oy '. sou), and Miss Nellie Jones, lho mlciment will bo private.
