AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP CLAIMED
RESERVIST'S APPEAL DISMISSED. By Telegraph?.—Frees Association. Christchurch, August 20. _ A claim that ho was an American citizen was the ground of the appeal of Hope Whilelield Home before the Second Canterbury Military Service Board to-day. The American Coiisul'Oteiicrai at Auckland advised that Home arrived irom tho United States in 1916, and his passport was being forwarded to tho Jtlon. &. W. Russell at "Wellington. The Consul slated that the appellant was born in New Zealand, of American parents, and that ho had carefully complied with all the regulations, and protected his citizenship as an American. . llorno appealed on the ground that ho was an American citizen. Ho held a passport, and was granted a pcnuit to leave Now Zealand for America m October, 1917, his nationality being stated as an American, showing that tho Now Zealand Government recognised liis citizenship. Ho had already taken tlio oath of allegiance to America, which forbade him taking the oath to the British flag, •consequently ho could not submit himself to medical examination. Tho chairman, Mr. H. W. Bishop, held that tho appellant was a aafairal-boMi British subject, and dismissed the appeal;
