FATAL FOOLISHNESS. By Telegraph.—Proßß Association. Auckland, August 18. A boy twelve years of age, named Leonard Hamilton Cavanagli, was fatally shot at Otahuhu yesterday afternoon, It is stated that tho deceased, with a younger brother, met three other boys, two of whom were carrying guns. One of these, ii lad, aged fifteen, put In'e sun to his shoulder and pointed at the deceased. The gun went off, a full charge of shot lodging in Cavanagh'e body near the hoart. Death was instantaneous. WOMAN FATALLY BUKNED. Dunedin, August 18. Louisa, Grave, 71 years of age, who lived by herself at Caversliam, was taken to the Dnnedin Hospital on Friday night suffering from burns. She had taken a scuttle containing paper and other rubbish to the back yard to burn, but the flames spread quickly, and her clothes caught' fire. She succumbed to shock early this morning. An inquest will be opened to-morrow morning. >. None of these, it is thought, are likely to prove serious. 1 The. mystery surrounding Mr. Frank Walker's disappearance from Otnki on Inly Iβ was partially solved by the discovery of the body in the Wnitnlm Stream on Fridny. Mr. W. snnr.. while walking to his home from the. beach near the stream, discovered tho body floating head- downwards some two.or three hundred yards below tho bridge leadinar to Mrs. Sinicox's summer eotta?e. and informed the police. It is thought that the deceased attempted to cross the bridsro, which is barred bv a locked gat", and that in negotiating the obstacle. Mr. Walker fell and was drowned, Hie water bring deep at the fipofr. The body had evidently been caught by one of the sna?s in tho stream, and had lately become released. An inquest will be held.
