NEW ZEALAND ACADEMY
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of tho New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts was held in the Art Gallery last evening. Mr. H. M. pore, the president of the society, was in the chair, and there was a fair number of members present. Tho annual report and balance-sheet (already published) were taken as read, and in moving their adoption the president said .that the number of members had been well maintained, but the most important matter was the number of applications for membership. He referred to tho deaths of the Hon. Sir Charles Johnston, who was one of the original members of .the Academy, Mr. C. Y. Fell, of Nelson, and Mr. Alex. Tnrnbull, who were also consistent supporters of tho Academy and public benefactors. He then referred to the sketch exhibition held during tho ; year, which proved a great success and yielded a small profit. This succese the chairman attributed io the energetic work of the secretary. He also stated that the Academy had set asido JMO towards the purchase fund. He formally moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet " Mr. H. R von Jliiast, in seconding tho motion, desired that there should bo added to the retort congratulations to Mr. Nugent Welch on his appointment as divisional artist to Lhc New Zealand Expeditionary Force. This was agreed to. and the motion was carried. The election of ofiicers resulted as follow:—President, 1 Mr. 11. M. Gore; vicepresidents. -Messrs. If. F. von l-fanst and ,T. Ellis; council. Uγ. .1. Allan Thomson, Messrs. W. A. Bowring, E. G. Hood, A. B. Nicoll, T. S. Weston, A. Atkins, Chas. Wilson, and Mis;i D. IC. Richmondl; treasurer, Mr. A. A. Bender; auditor, Mr. C. D. Morpetli.
