Appeals l)y the ' Public Trust were mado for George Henry Ellifi'e. correspondence clerk, Wellington; Leonard O'Connor,' accountants clerk, Wellington; F. S. Jarman, correspondence clerk, Christchurch. Respecting Elliffc, Mr. T. S. Ronaldson, Assistant Public Trustee, staged that -the reservist's work was highly important and required a kuotdedgo of law and accountancy. At present ho could not bo replaced. A suitable man .had been extensively advertised for without success. Tho Department had not stopped nnder-studios from going to the war, which mudo it tho more difficult now to release the heads. O'Connor was said to be an expert in making out income tax statements. Jarman, tho board was informed,' was ,in the Christchurch office, which was 'now roduced almost solely to cadets and girls, and where the work was very congested. His position was temporary, and anyone- who replaced him would Have to'tako the position subject to dismissal at a day's notice. Mr. Mtaren remarked that it seemed a pity that tho conditions of engagement were as indicated. • Mr. Ronaldson said that the Department liopfcl to get its own men baok some time," and the positions wero being kept open for them. Tho board reserved decision sine dio in the following appeals by the Union Steam Ship Company :-Honry Bayne, marine officer; Frank_ Holmes Edge, master mariner, Dnnedin; George David Fraser, marine officer, Auckland; Robert Sholto Dickie, marine engineer, Auckland; William Naismith, engineer, Dunedin- ■ Post and Telegraph Men. Decision was reserved sine die in the following cases in which tho Post and Telegraph Department appealed Leonard Spillor, assistant telegraph engineer, Christchurcli; Herbert Leonard Cummings, district telegraph engineer, Ngaio; Kenneth M'Caskill M Intyro, mechanic, Wellington; Francis Joseph Shanks, clerk, Wellington. Applications by Soldiers. An application was made for the return from the front of L.-Corpl. Rau Parato, who is on active servioe. Tho soldier's brother appealed, and stated that Parata went away with the first Maori Contingent; and Lis return was requested so that family matters could be fixed up. Tho board decided that it had no recommendation to make. Sergt. W. J. Soutcr, who desired leave to coinplete a contract, was complimented by the board on bis record at' tho front, wkick record included honourable mention for conspicuous gallantly, and an award of the King's Medal. He was recommended for leave till -January. Lieut.-A. E. Thompson, N.Z.R.8., a returned soldier, who was congratulated by the board on his having received honourable mention in dispatches for work done at the Somme, was granted nine days' leave. * • An appeal by the mother of Pte. Rich, ard G. Assad, for the Teturn of the soldier, was heard, and the board will *ecommond the granting of the request. Indefinite leave is to be recommended for John Frederick O'Connor, a farmer and shearer, who said that ;his affairs had been seriously disturbed by the Raetihi fire. 1 .. No recommendation is to b» nmds respecting Pte. Peter T. Noon, a 6oldier on active eervico, whose mother .asked for his return. Six months' leave is to bo recommended for Alfred Seamer, a soldier on activo service. The wife of Edward 11. Sharp, a captain, who has keen on ncbivo .service, appealed for her husband's return. The board said that in'his casei the soldier could make the application in England, and this course was recommended. Sine D'o Decisions.
