A statement .if isocounts in connection with aclvertis•ng ami other evpenses was made by .he secretary, Airs. O. Earle, showing a total of I'UI. A sum of .£3 towards iulvertising expenses had been received .'rom Mrs. Stewart, and other donations received were as follow:—-Miss Myers, 10s.; Sirs. Whitelaw, Its. lid.; Patea and District Patriotic League, .£lO. Mrs. Hall-Thompson proposed a vote of thank;; to Mrs. .Code tor the way in
.vhich she had" conducted .'natters in this connection, and expressed tho opinion that the espouses had been extremely well managed. Mrs. F. E. Cooper, hon. treasurer, gavo a brief ftatcuicnt of tho bottle sales, which had resulted in a cum of .£'3sl Us. 2>d. having been made by the three sales,"tho last one bruviing in XtfS Ss. 2Jd. Included in t'his amount was the donation from Patea and District Patriotic Society, of .110. The total expenses in connection with tho dales were slightly under -£'20. Mrs. Stewart, in tho course of a brief speech, referred to the valuable assistance given by tho suburbs and various districts, including Lower Ilutt, Island Bay. Patea, Wanganui, Palmerston North, etc., and especially the splendid work douo by tho schools, fhe children and staffs of which had helped iii every possible way. After a rest t'lio committee planned lo begin work again, but when they did so they hoped to seiiure tho assistance of the male members of the league, of whom there wero quite a number. There was n great deal of work to be done in connection with this bottle collecting, and the help was greatly needed. As a matter of fact if i_wns not forthcoming tlio work would have to lapse, as it was too much for womeu to carry out by themselves. A vote of thanks was proposed to Mrs. Earle and Mrs. Cooper for their services, the latter in addition lo her work as treasurer, being head of tho sorting committee; and working- continuously at a strenuous task. Votes of thanks were passed to various helpers who were in no way connected with the lcaguo, among them being Airs. Chilman, Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Anderson, .Mrs. Hamerton, St. Paul's Sunday School committee, also tho Scots Col'iegu Boy Scouts, tho Kel- : burn Boy Scouts, tho Sydney Street Soldiers' Club committee, and tho Wellington footballers, tho latter having given considerable help by doing a great deal of tlio "bagging" work. Mrs. Phillips Turner was also thanked for tho splendid help she had given in connection with the tins department, this alone having brought in a sum of J!IS. Mrs. lurkculdie was also thanked for her help and gifts. Mrs. Hall-Thompson proposed a vote of thanks to Sirs. Stewart for 'her suggestion of bottle sales, and. considered it simply wonderful that such a sum should have been made oat of what would have been considered waste material.
Mrs. Stewart proposed that the' sum of ,1300 bo forwarded to the Xavy League in Englaud, through tlio Navy Leaguo Executive in Wellington, to be expended upon the Navy and Marine Orphans' Homes at Plymouth, The Note, and Portsmouth, cCIOO going to each homo. This proposal was carried, tho sum left over alter expenses had been deducted being kept in hand for working oxponses in connectio.. with further efforts. It was suggested and agreed to that as tho school children had helped so greatly in tho bottlo campaigns the money should be sent through the local Navy League Executive in their name, as their contribution to the orphan children of British sailors.
A clieque from tho 45th N.C.O. Reinforcement Class, per Corporal Glasgow, was acknowledged with thanks, and votes, of thanks were passed to tho ladies who allowed their homes to bo used as depots, and to the Press. It was decided that bottle collecting should begin again in January, and in the meantime help- / ers and householders are asked to collect their "bottles and hold them till that time. Apoloiries were received from Mrs. Luke and Mr. Darrocli for their unavoidable absence.
