THE WOOL PURCHASE
POVERTY BAY OWNERS IN ACCORD WITH, IT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, August 13. As a-result of a canvass of Hie counties of Cook and Waikohu, undertaken by a coinmittee of sheep-farmers, but not including many settlers in the backblocks, who could not be'seen owing to the bad roads, the following letter, signed by 185 woolgrowers, representing the ownership of over eight hundred thousand sheep, hns been forwarded to tho Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald: "Owing to the adverse criticism that has been levelled against the sheep-fnrroere of the district of Poverty Bay by Ministers of the Crown, the Dominion Press, and sheep-farmers' associations in other portions of the Dominion, we, tho tindersigned, desire to state that we have never personally or collectively shown any hostility or opposition to the Imperial authorities' proposal to acquire our wool for a definite after fno war, and that we are in entire accord with the action taken by tho Government in tho matter."
