BALLOT APPEALS FURTHER HEARINGS IN THE CITY Another sitting of the first Wellington Military Service Board was held yesterday. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided and Messrs. D. AL'jjaren and \V. Perry eat with him. The Public Works Department appealed for Frederick William Furkett, inspecting engineer. Mr. W. S. Short, Under-Secretary of the Department, said that the Department:' had in hand important works which Mr. JFurkett had been associated with since their inception. Decision was reserved sine die: Hugh C. Fletcher, audit examiner, was appealed for by the Auditor-Gen-eral. Leave till the end of the year to enable local bodies' accounts to be audited was requested. The case was adjourned till January. Thos. Alcock Farey, watch foreman, was appealed for by the Wellington Harbour Board. It was stated that Farey, who is'in charge of the berths at the wharves was an experienced boatman and knew Horse signalling. He cannot be replaced at present. The board reserved decision sino die.
An appeal by Herbert England Schmidt, marine engineer, was adjourned sine die.
A sine die adjournment was made in the case Hugh M'Dougall, ship's, engineer, Greymouth. Frank Graham Hutton, clerk in tho Magistrate's Court, 'was appealed for on the ground that he was an experienced man whose retention on the staff was necessary. Decision was reserved- sine die.
Edwin Millies, a wbol valuer for tho Government, was appealed for. It was stated that there were only twenty wool 'valuers, and that fewer could not get through .the ,work. At the beginning of the season there were 21, but four had been released, and two of the four had gone to the war. Decision was reserved sine die.
Indefinite leave was agreed to for Herbert Bragg, a soldier in the 40th/Reinforcements, who stated that he was needed on his father's farm.
Three' months' leave was recommended for John Caradus, Land and Deeds Office cleik, Auckland. Walker 11. Ballinger, electrical engineer, was appealed for by his employer, and an adjournment till October was made.
Horace Percy Stephen Tilly, was given leave till October, Tilly i 6 a mechanic, and the appeal was made by his employer. . ..
. Leave till September was the decision in the .case of Maurice Frank Aubrey Archer, chief 'clerk in ~ihe Ocean Accident and Guarantee Company. An appeal for John Brown, Director of. the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, was withdrawn, as the reservist has been classed C 2. John Main, turner, Hataitai, was appealed for by the Patent Slip Company on the ground that they had been ■unable to get anyone to fill his place. Decision was reserved sine die. The adjourned appeal of Thos. Henry O'Sullivan, tinsmith, Lyall Bay, was further considered. The board dismissed the appeal, and gave leave till November. An employer's appeal was lodged for Charles Beattie Scott, brass turner and finisher. Decision was reserved sine die. Decision was reserved 6ine die in the case of Robert Edward Bathurst, manager, for\ whoin Bond and Co. appealed. Denis Jlahoney, labourer, appealed on the ground that he was not a reservist, and his appeal was allowed. Decision was reserved iu the case of Leopold Gottfried Schmidt, Featherston. The board will sit again this morning.
