BREWERY WORKERS
INDUSTRIAL DISPUTE FILED. Increased wages and improved conditions are being sought by tho members of tho Wellington Brewers, Bottlers, Bottie Washers, and Aerated Water -Employees' Industrial Union, whose dispute was iiled yesterday. The principal clauses in the new claims are appended:— Hours of Work.-{a) Breweries and bottiing stores: Forty-four hours shall constitute a week's work, not more than eight hours being worked in any one day, except where the exigencies of the manufacture or a breakdown cf machinery or plant require a longer shift being worked. The hours as applied to nighc ] cellannen shall remain as at present in tho several breweries, (b.) Malthouses: Forty-four hours shall constitute a week's work, not nioro than eight hours being worked in any one day, except where the exigencies of tho manufacture or a breakdown of machinery or plant require a longer shift being worked. Wages.—(a.) The following shall be the minimum rate of wages to bo paid to brewery and malthouse and bottling store labourers: ss. per week. Each foreman in each department to receive a corresponding increase, (b.) All wages shall be paid in _ cash on Friday each week, overtime being paid up to the previous Wednesday. In each case wages shall be paid during working hours. Overtime.—Overtime shall he paid at tho rate of time and a quarter for any time worked before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. on five days of the week, or beforo 8 a.m. and after 12 noon on Saturdays; for any work done on Sundays or on any of the holidays hereinafter mentioned" double time shall be uaid. Holidays.—{a.) Tho following shall be recogniscd as holidays: Christmas Day, Boxing Dav, New Year's Day, Anniversary Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Sovereign's Birthday, and Labour Day. (b.) If any holiday shall fall on a Sunday the following day shall be ob--Where nightwatchmen are employed, they shall, assist the brewer if required. Nightcellarmen.—Where nightcellern'.en are employed, they shall continue to work under tho Mine conditions as are in vogue at the time of the coming into operation of tliis award, snd shall receive the minimum rate of 13 10s. per Casual Workers.—A worker shall be deemed a casual worker if he shall not be employed continuously for raore than one week, and h© shall bo paul 2s. per hour wherever employed.
