A GOOD SUGGESTION
It is to be hopec! that the citizens 'of Wellington will respond heartily to the reciucst of the Mayor that they should commemorate the signal success of the Allies by the ringing of bells to-day at noon and by displaying bunting during the day. When a great and definite victory has been 'won by the Allies, it is we'll that wc should show our appreciation of the valour of our soldiers in an appropriate manner. The happenings of the last fewdays have made ths pulse of every Britisher beat quicker. The Allied armies have achieved wonders, and we have every reason to be thankful. The last battle of the war has not yet been won, but the results of Marshal Poor's counter-stroke have surpassed i our most optimistic expectations, and have made the final victory more certain. The present battle marks a 'definite stage in the war. We have reached a clear turning-point showing that the tide now flows unmistakably in our''favour. It is, therefore, fitting that citizens should by outward and visible signs give expression to the joy and gratitude that fill every loyal heart.
