Tho Wellintgon Chess Club's championship tournoy was advanced a further ■stago last week, the result's being as follow:—W. E. Mason (1) v. James (0); Fouhy (1) V. S. Gyles (0); Still (1) v. Rolling (0); Barnes (1) v. Ward' (0); Davics (1) v. Clark (0); Foully (1) v. Muckay (1);' Still (1) v. S. Gyles (0); Barnes (1) v. Godtschalk (0); and Davies (1) v. Mackay (0). . Messrs. W. E. Mason and Davies are loading, each* with a score of 6ix wins and no losses. Messrs. It. J. Barnes (t-1), If. L. James (4-1), and Godtschalk (2—l) are in close pursuit. Mr. Davies is also leading the way In the club's annual handicap tournuy, with the fine score of six clear wins. Messrs. S. Mackay', W. C. White, and E. S. Taylor aro also in tho running. To-day's match, Ngaio v. Wellington, is tho first meeting of these clubs. The Wellington Club is not sending any of her five exchampions of New Zealand to Ngaio, and a close contest may therefore be looked for.' The follow'ng are the best scores to da'to in the annual handicap tourney .of the Wellington South Chess Club-.-W. J. Harper, six wins, no losses; H. 'Weiton, 6-1 j H. J. Thompson, 6-1 j and G. P. Anderson,' s—l. Messrs. Purchas, Berry, and Mulvey are in close pursuit, having only lost two games each. Several games require a second sitting, including the fixtures—Harper v. Anderson, Harper v.
