ALLEGED THEFT OP RINGS. Tho proceedings at ; the Magistrate's Court yesterday wero presided over by Mr, L. G. Reid, S.M. A youug woman named Oareen Dewes..bury.was accused..of having.istolen from the dwellinghouso of Dr. P. 1 , . M'Eyedy on Saturday last three diamond rings, valued at >£100, the property of Catherine M'Evedy. On the application of Chief-Detective' Boddam. accused was remanded .until August IC. Harold Roy, Hector Babb was-remand-ed until to-day on a charge of having obtained from John Mortimer on July 12 last the'sum of £i 7s. by means of a valueless, cheque. Simon Muir was convicted and discharged for.'drunkenness, and was fined 205.,*" in default seven days' imprisonment, for committing an indecent act. Walter John Hamilton was fined £3, in default fourteen 'days' imprisonment, for the use. of obsceno. language. A youth named Abraham Brown admitted the theft of a sum of Cs. 5d., the property of Donald.A. M'Lean, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called.upon. Robert Ilowell and C. C. Howard were each lined 10s., with 11s. costs, for. being on licensed premises after the hours of closing. .. For having driven a vehicle on tho wrong eide of Molosworth Street, Arthm ,Hey. was .-fini'd 10s., with costs 7s. Mr. O'Shca, city solicitor, who prosecuted, eaul Tiiero was a peculiar tendency for motorists and others to drive on tho wrong side of the thoroughfare, and tho practico must l>.: stopped. James Patrick Lavin was fined 55., with costs 75., for having failed to have sufficient lights on a vehicle. For allowing horses to wander Gaetano Lamuloro was fined lfls., with costs vs., 'and Vera Petherick was fined 55., with costs 7e. George Duko Hansford was fined 10s., with 7s. costs, for having left a motorcar unattended in a public street. 'Thomas Pcard. was ordered to pay costs 7s. for riding a motor-cycle on the Hutt Road without sufficient lights.
