NAKED LIGHT ALLEGED CAUSE. The Defender, destroyed by fire in the harbour on Friday, is now a charred shell below water-line. All tho woodwork, including the masts, above deck, is gone and the hull gutted of everything except tho iron work. Opinions differ as to what the chances are for the salving the machinery, but an examination is to be made. On Saturday tho harbour was strewn with floating ca '« and tins, and inward-bound marinwh were at a loss to account for the unusual sight. It is alleged that tho prime cause of tho explosion was Hie ignition of, tho gas from a "slush-lamp."
