The- development of the dairying industry in Australia, as compared with New Zealand, was tlio subject of con'iihent by Mr. H. K. INicey, managinp; director of tiro New Zealand Dairy Association, who has just returned to Auckland from a health trip to Queensland nnd New South Wales. Ho said that Queensland' produced 'very good butter considering. the ■primitive methods of manufacture still in operation in many of the, factories. Only one or two be had Been approached the standard of tho best New-Zealand factories in equipment. Tho • dairying people, however, woro awakening ; to' the necessity of adopting modern methods, and considerable improvement ■ should resnlt shortly. New South AVales had' done wonders within tho past two ! years, and \now only 5 nor cent, of the output of the State was classed second Brade, as compared with HO per cent. :i few years ago. The New South Wales dairy farmers intent on further improvement, nnd New Zealand would have to look to her laurels in order to retain the nosition slio had won-in tho industry. This could be done only by the exercise of meticulous care and persistent effort both on the part of the manufacturers and the farmer.
