London, July 26. The hearing of the charges agaiust Sir Joseph Joms (ex-Lord Mayor of Sheffield), .of illegal traffic with the enemy, is proceeding at tho Old Bailey. Snhn was discharged on the ground that there was no evidence to go before a jury. Jones stated in evidence that his firm had an .extensive business before the war. When the war broko out German customers owed his firm nearly i!80,0O0. He denied that he had been a party to any conspiracy prejudicial to the country.—Aus.N.Z. Cable'Assn.
