Private Egerton Gill was court-martial-led to-day for wilful disobedience ot' an order given by his superior officer to parade for medical examination. Tho accused refused to plead. Ho claimed I hat he was in 110 sense a soldier. Tho power claimed under tho Military Service. Act, as far as sending soldiers out of New Zealand was concerned was not within (he range of the constitution. Ho would submit, no legal defence as such. Jle claimed that at a trial onliiiling possibilities of a sentence of hard labour lie was entitled to a jury. A verdict of guilty was returned. The sentenco will be promulgated later.
