POLICE CASES. Mr. W. G. Riddcll, S.M., dealt with both tho police and the civil cases in tho Magistrate's ■ Court yesterday. Cm a charge of having used obscene language in Johnston Street Albert Edward Curtis was convicted and fined .£3, in default U days' imprisonment. ( Albert Edward Curtis was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment', for having refused'to quit licensed premises when requested to do bo. ■ AN ACCOUNTANT'S CLAIM. Emile C. Ludwig, accountant, sued Montiose Mitohinson (trading as Mitchinson Bros., Ninrtown) for d£l2 10«. for Berviccs rendered by plaintiff as an accountant. Mr. Eiddell gave judgment for £7 Is., which included an amount of £" paid into Court. ABOUT A SMALL BUSINESS. Henry Thomas Fremantle Flyger and Ronald Flyger, farniera, l'almewton North, proceeded against Mary Brady, shopkeeper, Kilbirnie, for the possession of premises occupied by defendant at Kilbirnie and for £8 13s. Bd. eaid to bo due on. the tenancy. ' Defendant , explained that as she had had offers for tho business she claimed that ehe should not be deprived of tho opportunity of getting something for the goodwill. She claimed also the protection of the war legislation. Tho Magistrate adjourned tho case for a week to see if a settlement could be arrived at. . JUDGMENTS BY DEFAULT. Iu judgment summons cases N. Meech was ordered to pay tho Denhard Automatic Baking Co., Ltd., the sum of X 2 Bs. Id., by August' 6, in default 48 hours' imprisonment; Donald Dobson to pay Alfred Pinckney J213 13s. by August 6, in default seven days' detention in gaol; George James Adams to pay the N.Z. Automatic Bakeries, Ltd, JJI 19s. 2d. by August 6, in default 2i hours' imprisonment; Alexander Sutherland to pay James B. Tristram ,E1 by August 6, in default to go to gaol for 24 hours; 11. Stagpoolo to pay F. W. J. Oakley .£SB 12s. sd. by instalments of 15s. per week.
