LABOUR DAY
BIG CELEBRATION IN PREPARATION. It has been decided that a special demonstration shall be held in AVellington on Labour Day (October 28) this year. A fillip has been given the Trades and Labour Council, and correlative bodies, by the acquisition for the purposes of a Trades Hall of the residence of tho late Dr. Martin in Vivian Street, and it is with a view, to benefiting the now Trades Hall Finn! that extraordinary altention'is being given this yenr to the Labour Day gala. Money -will bo needed for a long time to come for the gradual metamorphosis of a doctor's residence into a wellequipped Trades Hall, and those connected with the movement arc determined to make a big start on Labour Day. The, gala will include a procession, * jports on' Newtown Park throughout the day, and a concert in tho Town Hall in the evening. A special committee has been set up, and includes Mr. M. .T. lieardon as president, and Mr. John Read as secretary. The committee intends to ask the authorities to have Labour Day proclaimed a full 'holiday for the schools, .secondary as well as primary.
