Two thousand yearling rainbow trout are being sent from tho Masterton fish ponds to the Waimarino district to stock up the streams which were depleted of trout as a result of tho recent busk fires. In a challenge match for tho Pragnell Shield the Featherston Miniature liifle Club defeated Masterton by (175 poinU to 055. Owing io the heavy floods in tho rivers Hie collection of brown trout ova from the Waipoua -Jtiver, which was netted, was this year a failure. ■ Only SS.flflO brown trout ova were collected. A consignment of 150,000 rainbow trout ova has been received from tie Kotortia district! As the curator of the fish ponds (Mr. ,T. C. Miller) has been called up for active service, the work of distributing yearling trout from the fish ponds will be commenced almost immediately. Mr. C. P. Vallancc has been ,re-ele;tert president of the Masterton Racing Club. Sixteen nominations have been received for the. fourteen vacancies on the stewards. Another batch of recruits left .Masterton for camp yesterday morning. The poll taken at Peatherston on Wednesday as to a proposal,to borrow JHOOO for financing the balance of the sewerage and drainage works, and providing advances to property-holders as to house connections was enrried.
